MLB injury roundup: Giancarlo Stanton has sore ankle, Kemp taking simulated at-bats

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Recent injury news on three stars in the MLB.

Giancarlo Stanton

Miami Marlins star Giancarlo Stanton left Saturday's game against the Nationals in the eighth inning with a sore ankle and is considered day-to-day moving forward.

Stanton has been dealing with the injury since he rolled his ankle one week ago. He reportedly had been feeling some discomfort earlier on Saturday, then began feeling more pain around the second inning.

"It was just one of those days," Stanton said after the game. "Today, it hurt, I don’t know why, more than almost the first day that it happened."

The Marlins recently began a stretch where they are playing 21 games in 20 days. The team won't have a day off until just prior to the final series of the season.

Matt Kemp

After being shut down indefinitely on Friday, Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp took 15 at-bats in a simulated game setting on Saturday.

However, swinging has not been the big issue for Kemp, who is suffering from hamstring and ankle injuries. The problem is that Kemp still has not been able to run. If he cannot do that, there is a very real possibility that Kemp could be shut down for the remainder of the season.

Bryce Harper

Nationals slugger Bryce Harper flew back to Washington D.C. Saturday night to have tests done on his hip. Harper has been dealing with discomfort in his hip for much of the season and experienced a flair-up of the injury while taking batting practice before the game.

Harper was given a day off Wednesday because of the injury, but was in the lineup on Friday. He was expected to start Saturday as well before the injury caused him to be scratched.

Like with Kemp, there is a chance that Harper may not play again in 2013.
