The Jolly Roger design will still be on the sleeves of the team's uniforms, but is now being used as miscellaneous team art rather than as an official logo. The Pirates had originally looked into re-designing the old logo, but feedback from fans led them to go with the simple "P" design.
The Pirates have already been utilizing the new design on their jerseys and caps for some time, but had not officially changed over to it as the permanent design.

The changes will take place immediately for the 2014 season and will first be seen in game action Feb. 26 against the Yankees in the Pirates' first Spring Training game. The team will also have a "Black and Gold" exhibition match one day prior to that game.
