Vin Scully throws first pitch to Sandy Koufax. Sort of.

Stephen Dunn

There was a baseball and a glove, but otherwise, not a pitch.

It is very charitable to label this as a ceremonial first pitch:

Both parties are forgiven because Sandy Koufax and Vin Scully were both born years before the Dodgers even moved to Los Angeles from Brooklyn, but that skateboarding dog who threw out the first pitch last year for Los Angeles ranks ahead of this on the "Most Similar To An Actual Pitch" scale that I just now made up to judge ceremonial first pitches.

All that being said, the hug makes up for all of it. Even if Vin Scully didn't skateboard to Koufax first.
