Sports Network | July 30, 2009

Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Adam Jones homered for a third straight game and Nick Markakis hit the tiebreaking two-run single in the seventh inning as Baltimore beat Kansas City, 7-3, at Camden Yards.

Jones also hit the tying RBI double in the seventh as the Orioles snapped a two-game skid and won for just the second time in nine games. Markakis also finished with three runs batted in.

Chris Tillman, who had his contract selected from Triple-A Norfolk Wednesday and made his major league debut, gave up seven hits and three runs over 4 2/3 innings in the start for the Orioles.

"I feel like I hurt myself a little bit falling behind (of hitters)," said Tillman. "The off-speed wasn't there for me tonight."

Matt Albers (2-4) threw 2 1/3 innings to get the win and Jim Johnson had four strikeouts over the final two frames for his second save.

Alberto Callaspo, Miguel Olivo and Mike Jacobs homered for the Royals in the third contest of the four-game series. Kansas City lost for the 12th time in 15 games.

Zack Greinke allowed five hits and a pair of runs while fanning seven over his six-inning start for the Royals. Robinson Tejeda (1-1) suffered the loss.

"There were at least three, probably four or five 10-pitch at-bats," said Greinke, who was removed after throwing 116 pitches. "Not only are those long at-bats, but they're high-stress at-bats too."

Tejeda walked Cesar Izturis and Brian Roberts to start the bottom of the seventh. Jones then doubled off John Bale to right field, tying the game at 3-3. Markakis followed with a two-run single to center field.

The Orioles added two runs in the eighth on run-scoring singles from Markakis and Aubrey Huff.

Roberts singled to begin the bottom of the first and Jones then homered to left-center field.

Callaspo homered to right with one out in the second, and with two outs Olivo homered to left-center. Jacobs homered to right with two down in the fourth to give KC a 3-2 edge.

The Orioles opened a roster spot for Tillman by placing pitcher Rich Hill on the 15-day disabled list. Hill is out with left shoulder inflammation...The start of the game was delayed 41 minutes by rain...Greinke is winless (0-3) over his last five starts...Part of the package of players the Orioles acquired from Seattle in the Erik Bedard deal, Tillman was 8-6 with a 2.70 ERA for Triple-A Norfolk this year.
