Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Daniel Murphy drove in three runs to help the New York Mets avoid a sweep at the hands of the Florida Marlins with a 10-3 win in the finale of a three-game set at Land Shark Stadium.
Angel Pagan had a solo home run and scored three times while Jeff Francoeur drove in a pair of runs for the Mets, who snapped a five-game skid. Tim Redding (2-4) benefited from the support as he gave up three runs, all solo home runs, on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings of work.
"Giving up three solo home runs is better than giving up three three-run home runs," said Redding. "These guys did a great job of getting on base all day and putting the pressure on so I tip my hats to them."
Chris Coghlan homered twice while Dan Uggla added a solo shot for the Marlins, who had taken the first two games of the set after dropping four of five. Anibal Sanchez (2-5) was tagged for four runs -- two earned -- on eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts in just 3 2/3 innings of work.
"Whenever you hit two home runs in a game it feels good, but not when you lose," said Coghlan. "It takes away from that and what we play the game for is to win."
Coghlan gave the Marlins a 1-0 lead in the first as he knocked a 2-2 changeup just over the wall in left.
The Mets, though, responded with a three-spot in the second. Fernando Tatis led off with a single and moved to second on Omir Santos' groundout. Anderson Hernandez followed with a double to score Tatis. Redding then grounded out back to the mound, but Pagan kept the inning alive with a walk. Wilson Valdez then hit a ball to first base that Ross Gload misplayed, allowing Hernandez to score and Murphy followed with a ground-rule double that plated Pagan for a 3-1 lead.
In the fourth, New York tacked a run on as Valdez reached second with one out on a hit back to the pitcher that Sanchez threw away and came home later in the inning on a single from Francoeur for a 4-1 lead.
The Mets blew the game open in the fifth. With two outs and men on first and second, Valdez scored a run on a single to center and Murphy followed with a two-run double. Francoeur then brought home Murphy with a single to left for an 8-1 lead.
Coghlan got a run back in the sixth for Florida when he led off the frame with a homer over the wall in left.
Uggla's homer in the seventh made it a five-run game. After the next two batters recorded outs, Ronny Paulino walked and Redding was pulled for Elmer Dessens, who got Gaby Sanchez to pop out and end the frame.
Tatis hit a solo homer in the eighth to extend New York's lead to 9-3 while Pagan's solo home run in the ninth accounted for the final score.
