Recap: NY Mets vs. NY Yankees

Sports Network | June 27, 2009

Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - A.J. Burnett shut down the Mets to the tune of one hit to lead the Yankees to a 5-0 win in the second game of the Subway Series from Citi Field.

Burnett (6-4) lasted seven innings and struck out a season-best 10 batters while walking three. Brian Bruney and David Robertson each tossed an a scoreless frame in relief.

Jorge Posada smacked a three-run, opposite-field homer for the Yankees, who won their fourth straight game. Nick Swisher had a solo home run in the win, while Alex Rodriguez was responsible for the other run.

The Yankees were without the services of shortstop Derek Jeter -- for the second time in as many games -- and left fielder Johnny Damon due to the flu.

Alex Cora had the lone hit for the Mets, who have been outscored 29-1 over their last three losses to their crosstown rivals. Tim Redding (1-3) took the loss after giving up five runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings of work, as the Mets lost for the seventh time in 11 tries.

The Yanks took a 1-0 lead in the third as Swisher deposited a 3-2 slider over the fence in left-center field.

The visitors tacked on four runs in the sixth. Mark Teixeira broke an 0- for-10 slump with a one-out double to the deepest part of the park in right- center -- missing a homer by a few feet -- and scored as Rodriguez followed with a single. Robinson Cano made it second and third with a double down the line in left and Posada cleared the bases with a homer to left, which brought Brian Stokes in from the bullpen.

Cora's leadoff single in the home sixth broke up Burnett's no-hit bid. However, Argenis Reyes, David Wright and Ryan Church were retired to end the inning.

The Yankees went 2-for-5 with RISP and stranded seven runners...Redding is winless in his last eight interleague starts (0-3)...The Yankees took two of three from the Mets earlier this month, but the Mets won last year's series, four games to two. The Yanks, though, took two of three in Flushing a year ago.
