Recap: Los Angeles vs. Philadelphia

Sports Network | June 6, 2009

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Andre Ethier delivered for the Dodgers again, crushing a solo homer to center field in the bottom of the 12th inning to lift Los Angeles to a 3-2 win over Philadelphia.

In Friday's contest between the clubs, Ethier had a two-run double off Brad Lidge in the bottom of the ninth as the Dodgers took a 4-3 victory.

Then on Saturday, Ethier came up with two down in the 12th and slugged a pitch from Chad Durbin over the center field wall to give the Dodgers another thrilling win. It was Ethier's second homer of the game.

Los Angeles was only in position to take the win in extra innings after Rafael Furcal launched a pinch-hit, one-out solo shot off Lidge in the ninth to tie the game. For the second game in a row, Lidge entered the ninth with a one-run lead, but again couldn't hold onto the lead, blowing the save for the sixth time this season.

Durbin (1-2) took the loss, though he had kept the Dodgers off the scoreboard for two innings prior to Ethier's homer. Cory Wade (1-3) earned the win after keeping the Phillies scoreless over the last two frames.

The Dodgers got all their runs off homers en route to their fourth win in five games. They dropped the opener of this four-game set on Thursday, but will go for the series win in Sunday's finale.

Matt Stairs provided all the Phillies' runs with a two-run pinch-hit single in the seventh inning off Ronald Belisario. But Philadelphia couldn't muster another run, losing for the second game in a row following a seven-game win streak.

Neither starter factored into the decision, as LA's Hiroki Kuroda gave up only two hits over six shutout innings, and the Phillies' Joe Blanton yielded a run on five hits in six frames.
