Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Craig Counsell went 3-for-5 with a triple and three runs batted in, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a 6-2 victory over the Houston Astros at Miller Park.
Mike Burns (3-4) earned his first win in five appearances for the Brewers, who have scored 29 runs in their last three games -- all wins. Burns lasted seven innings, giving up just two runs on four hits and three walks while fanning seven.
"Burns had a solid performance tonight," said Brewers manager Ken Macha. "The key to his game tonight was his fastball location. He ran the ball in to open up his breaking pitches."
Felipe Lopez also had three hits and scored twice, while Prince Fielder went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two walks in the win.
Hunter Pence's two-run homer accounted for all of Houston's offense, as the Astros lost their third straight and fifth in sixth games. Brian Moehler (7-9) lost his third consecutive outing, allowing three runs on 10 hits and two walks in five innings.
After squandering a bases-loaded situation in the first, the Brewers opened the scoring in the second on Burns' RBI groundout, scoring Frank Catalanotto, who had doubled.
A two-out rally ensued, as Alcides Escobar and Lopez followed with back-to- back singles. Counsell then lined a two-run triple down the right field line to make it 3-0.
Burns continued to keep Houston off the scoreboard, getting out of a jam in the sixth with runners on first and second with nobody out.
Milwaukee responded in the home half, adding three runs to take a 6-0 lead on an RBI single from Counsell, a sacrifice fly from Fielder and an RBI groundout from Mike Cameron.
Pence finally got Houston on the board in the seventh, blasting a two-run shot to left.
"I was looking for a fastball, and it was a breaking ball all the way," Pence said. "I got lucky to keep my arms back and somehow got them out there."
But that was all the Astros got, as David Weathers pitched a perfect eighth to bridge the gap to Todd Coffey, who pitched around a two-out single to finish the game.
Milwaukee pitcher Dave Bush will have a rehab start on Tuesday with Class-A Wisconsin...The Brewers lead the season series, 7-4...Despite the win, Milwaukee went 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position and left 11 runners on base.
