A diving catch by Tony Gwynn Jr. in left field with two outs in the ninth saved the game for the Dodgers, and saved Jonathan Broxton from his second blown save in a row, as the Dodgers beat the Padres 3-2 on Friday night at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers today placed Casey Blake on the disabled list with an infected left elbow, and have recalled Russ Mitchell from Triple A Albuquerque. In fact, the infection for Blake was so bad that he already has had elbow surgery,
The last time Ted Lilly and Clayton Richard started against one another, three weeks ago tonight, the game took two days to complete. The Dodgers and Padres battled through four rain delays Friday night, April 8, at Petco Park, and the ultimate suspension of the game, which was resumed the next night. The Dodgers won that game in 11 innings, but both Richard and Lilly had their starts cut short by the rain.
