Promotions for Minor Leaguers Williams, Austin, Sanchez and More

It was only a matter of time before promotions came for the players who had been tearing up the South Atlantic League with the Charleston RiverDogs. Catcher Gary Sanchez and outfielders Mason Williams and Tyler Austin will be moving up and joining the High A Tampa Yankees tomorrow.

Centerfielder Mason Williams turned in an extremely impressive June while hitting .304/.359/.489 on the season with eight home runs for Charleston. Catcher-turned-third-baseman-turned-right-fielder Tyler Austin was 2nd in the Sally League with 14 homers and a .320/.405/.598 batting line for the year.

After a disappointing defensive season in Charleston last year, Gary Sanchez improved his play behind the plate while hitting .297/.353/.517 with 13 home runs so far in 2012. He's still a work in progress at catcher, but his improvements and hot hitting have certainly earned him a promotion to the next level. You can continue to follow the progress of Williams, Austin, and Sanchez on the right-hand sidebar on the front page.

Other promotions include Rob Segedin (.291/.358/.446 7 HR) and JR Murphy (.257/.322/.374 5 HR) moving from Tampa to AA Trenton. Murphy's promotion, despite his unimpressive numbers, may have more to do with Gary Sanchez moving to Tampa than deserving a promotion in his own right. Neil Medchill also moves back to Trenton from Tampa in hopes of actually staying there this time.

Also on the move are Jose Toussen, Tyson Blaser, and Eduardo Sosa, who will be joining the Charleston RiverDogs and Kyle Higashioka, who is moving back to Tampa from Trenton.
