Marlins Select Silverio, Lara in Rule 5 Draft
The Miami Marlins made a couple of Rule 5 draft selections in former Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Alfredo Silverio and former Tampa Bay Rays lefty pitcher Braulio Lara.

Both players, who were in the Dodgers' minor league system in 2012, signed minor league contracts for 2013 and will open spring training in major league camp.

Dodgers outfield prospect Alfredo Silverio, who had a breakout season in Double A Chattanooga last year, was involved in a significant car accident in the Dominican Republic on January 23. Silverio suffered injuries to his back, shoulder, elbow, and neck, but is also still suffering concussion symptoms nearly six weeks after the accident. There is no timetable for his return to baseball activities, let alone playing in games.
