Nathan Eovaldi on Sunday won the Jim & Dearie Mulvey Award, given annually to the top Dodgers rookie in spring training. In four starts so far this spring, Eovaldi is 1-1 with a 1.72 ERA in 16 innings, with four walks and six strikeouts.

Jerry Sands got a call at 4:30 a.m. Thursday morning, an automated call from the Johnston County (North Carolina) School District, seeing if he was available to substitute teach today. In about six weeks, Sands hopes for a similar call into Don Mattingly's office, whether it is to be a full-time or substitute player for the Dodgers.

With the departures of Hong-Chih Kuo (the left-hander hasn't signed anywhere else yet, but as of now he is no longer a member of the Dodgers) and Jonathan Broxton, the Dodgers have lost the players who have been with the organization the longest and were with the team the longest, respectively.

For the fifth straight year, the Dodgers will hold their Winter Development Program in Los Angeles, a program designed to help minor league players acclimate to major league life both on and off the field. The week-long program begins this weekend.

With just over three years service time, Dana Eveland is arbitration eligible this winter. The Dodgers won't be the ones going to any hearing with Eveland, though. The Dodgers have reportedly traded Eveland to the Baltimore Orioles for minor left-handed league pitcher Jarret Martin and a player to be named later, per Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun.

Dana Eveland makes the start for the Dodgers as they open their final series of the season, at Chase Field in Phoenix against the Arizona Diamondbacks. With Hiroki Kuroda and Ted Lilly in line to start the final two games of the season, the Dodgers will have received 139 starts from their planned starting five this season, including 130 from their top four.
