Preview: McCarthy motors on

We welcome the San Diego Padres to Chase Field for the first time this season tonight, as a three-game set starts, which will take us to Memorial Day.

SnakeBytes 5/24: Here Come the Madres

Home sweet home, there's nothing like it in the world. After a long spell of failures at the plate, the D-backs will look to jump-start the offense in the friendly confines of Chase Field and also be the benefactors of some home cookin'.

Diamondbacks 2, Phillies 4

The offense got things started in the best possible way, with Gerardo Parra homering to lead off the bottom of the first, followed by a Didi Gregorius triple. It threatened to be a big inning, but...

J.A. Happ, helmets for pitchers, and a new rule?

Pitching's always going to be dangerous, but things can be done and things will, eventually, be done.

D-backs Luck So Far

To think about baseball in the Internet Age is to accept luck's larger role in the game. We look at some of the D-backs who have benefited, and been hampered, the most by luck through the first month.

What's the matter with Brandon McCarthy?

In Tuesday's game against the Yankees, McCarthy lasted only four innings, allowing nine hits and two walks: three earned runs were allowed, but he left them loaded in the first two frames. It was the third consecutive underwhelming start for him.

[Poll] Brandon McCarthy Starts

There's no doubt: if healthy, McCarthy could be one of the best free-agent signings of the winter. But this is a man who made his major-league debut in 2005, and has yet to make more than 25 starts in a season there. Will 2013 be any different?

D-backs 4, White Sox 2: Rod Barajas steals a base!

I lead with that, because it just doesn't happen often. Unfortunately, Barajas then suffered a rush of blood to the head, as he was later thrown out at the plate, trying to go second to home. And Brandon McCarthy gave us our first quality start.

Diamondbacks 11, White Sox 9: Slugfest Saturday

Not just for the spring training contest, which saw the teams combine for 37 baserunners, but of course, all the game at Chase, which will henceforth be know (hat-tip to aricat!) as the Warrin' in the Sonoran. Who said no-one cares about the WBC?
