Prospective new BCB contributor Eric Nehm returns today with a post on Norichika Aoki and what the Brewers can expect in 2013 from one of 2012's breakout performers.
The Japanese outfielder turns 31 today.
Norichika Aoki hit ten home runs in 2012. Let's talk about that a little.
Half the hype of Denard and 4 rounds later, sounds good to me.
Norichika Aoki finished fifth in the NL Rookie of the Year voting with two second place votes and five third place votes.
When the NL Rookie of the Year is announced tonight, it's likely Norichika Aoki will appear on some ballots. Let's take a look at some of the other Brewers who have been honored over the years.
Even the most optimistic Brewer fans have to be pleasantly surprised by what the Brewers got from Aoki this season.
From their 1969 start in Seattle to 2011, the Milwaukee Brewers had never achieved more than 82 HBPs in a season. But then, after 33 seasons of frustration, only once getting hit by 82 pitches, the 2012 Brewers got hit by 90 pitches.
With the Cardinals leading the Nationals, it appears the Brewers will be officially eliminated from playoff contention following a 7-0 loss to the Astros.
As a Japanese-born player with ten home runs, Norichika Aoki is in pretty limited company.
