The Angels players voted Nick Adenhart a full playoff share. The late pitcher's family will receive $138,038.51 according to the LA Times Blog. The Angels voted for 43 Full Shares, although it was not immediately disclosed who received what or if partial shares were part of the take as well.

Playoff shares are almost as old as professional baseball itself and substitute for player payroll in the offseason. 2nd place teams in non-wild-card divisions also get a share, although it is miniscule in comparison to playoff teams. The further a team advances into the playoffs, the more money they receive as a share of the gate revenues at each playoff game. In days gone by there was a chance for postseason shares for a 3rd place finish in the old division and league alignments and the hunger for these player pay-days kept late-season competition fierce among hungry clubs with no hope of a title in sight.

Traditionally, the players on the postseason roster hold a meeting at the outset of the playoffs and go down the list of players who have spent some time on the club that season. Historically this has served as a way to keep the clubhouse peace among minor league call-ups. Players know that being seen as a "team guy" can make their short stay pay off at the end of the season if their veteran teammates saw them in a good light.

Half and quarter shares have been known to be seen as slights of players who dogged injuries or otherwise failed to contribute to the team's effort, but they are often justifiable for players who may have been traded early in the season. Most rookies who had a cup of coffee on the bench late in the season overflow with gratitude for a quarter share.

The players are free to add people to the list - clubhouse attendants and other team personnel have been known to pull in significant cash bonuses form their club's player's pool through the generosity of a player or two who speak up on their behalf at the end-of-the-season meeting.

The World Series winner has always gotten the largest percentage of the postseason pool and the Yankees' Full Shares were just over $365,000 each for their 2009 title, while the Phillies players got about $262,000 for every Full Share.

By defeating the Red Sox, the Angels cost each player in a Boston uniform dearly as their Full Shares were $102,620 according to our SBN affiliate Yahoo! Sports, who confirmed that the 2nd place Texas Rangers made $9,276 each from postseason monies.

Rockies manager Jim Tracy and Mike Scioscia were awarded the Manager of the Year award Wednesday, according to MLB.com. Both managers are well deserving of the award after putting together terrific seasons.

After Tracy took over, he led the Rockies to the NL Wild Card, posting a 74-42 record en route to a franchise record 92 wins.

Scioscia kept his Angels in it despite several injuries and the tragic and unexpected death of rookie pitcher Nick Adenhart. This was their third straight division title and fifth in six seasons.

Below is a compilation of the Halos' best prospect performances going back to 2005. I give two run values for position players: the "+ bat" is how many more runs that prospect created over their league's average player according to a widely-used runs created formula. The "+ glove" is how many runs that player saved in the field according to Sean Smith's "TotalZone" defensive metric. For pitchers, I compare their runs allowed per game to the league average to generate the "runs saved" metric. Both pitchers and position players are then ranked by "WAR," or "Wins Above Replacement," which is an inclusive metric that incorporates each player's runs values with adjustments for playing time and position. Using the replacement-level concept for minor leaguers brings up all kinds of theoretical sabermetric questions, but I have my reasons for keeping the calculations as similar as I could to those used for major leaguers.

Lastly, keep in mind that WAR is a counting stat and minor leaguers play at least 10% fewer games than their major league counterparts, so a 3.9 WAR here is more impressive (for temporal reasons only) than a 3.9 WAR over a 162 game schedule.

The Angels have maintained the spontaneous fan memorial to Nick Adenhart all season outside of the stadium.

This is an open thread to discuss your ideas on how to honor Nick Adenhart's memory at the stadium in perpetuity.

Would it not behoove the club to consider making any such memorial also honor the three other players (Dick Wantz, Mike Miley and Lyman Bostock) who died while on the club's active roster?

Final Score: Rich Team That Buys Victories 5, Angels 2.

There were times when it seemed nothing could slow down an Angels team brought together by the death of Nick Adenhart in a season that had already begun with John Lackey, Ervin Santana, and Kelvim Escobar on the DL. Joe Saunders would pitch through pain, Scot Shields would be lost for the season, and Vlad the Impaler would look more and more each day like Vlad the Former Impaler.

No matter. The Angels just kept winning. And winning. And winning. Then they got to the ALCS and forgot how to play baseball. Mike Scioscia, widely considered to be one of baseball's best managers, would make several puzzling moves, including today's choices of sticking with Joe Saunders through thin and thin -- Saunders wobbled through every inning and never came close to getting it together -- and trying Scott "Let me try 25 pitches this inning and see if a few of them are good" Kazmir in a 3-2 game, while Jered Weaver -- he of precisely the breaking stuff the Yankees couldn't handle all series -- sat, and sat, and sat.

Not how I would have played it, but then again I would have caught Matsui's pop up, I would have taken the out at first on Melky Cabrera's ground ball, I would have thrown a bunt nearer to a base than to the malt vendor.

BREAKING NEWS!!!! Derek Jeter has just sneezed. Fox will have the full story right after Tim McCarver says something inane. So that would be right now. Good effing grief, people.

In the three previous ALDS showdowns, the Red Sox dominated the Angels to a record of 10-1. Two of those seasons, 2004 and 2007, the Red Sox went on to win the World Series. This season, the Angels were ready to change things up.

After impressive performances from John Lackey and Jered Weaver, the pitching looks to be getting hot at the right time. Timely hitting from Vladimir Guerrero and Erik Aybar, along with consistent at-bats from Bobby Abreu and Torii Hunter, Angels fans are starting to believe that this could the year.

The Yankees returned to the postseason after a brief hiatus, halting the Twins' impressive streak to end their season. The Yankees outscored the Twins 15-6 behind solid outings from CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, and Andy Pettitte. The Yankees kept Joba Chamberlain in the bullpen for the ALDS, but will need at least a fourth starter for the ALCS. Whether it is Chamberlain or Chad Gaudin, there is even more pressure on Sabathia and Burnett to get the Yankees out in front in the series.

The Angels have the Yankees' number in the postseason, knocking the Yankees out in 2002 and 2005. They split the season series this year, but it is clear that the Angels have more depth in their rotation than the Yankees.

The Yankees paced the league with 915 runs scored, but the Angels were right there with 883. The lineups from top to bottom are solid, but it is key that the Angels don't let Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez hurt them. The Yankees would be smart to avoid Guerrero, who stepped up in the ALDS after a strong second-half.

Both bullpen's are solid, and both teams are motivated beyond just winning a World Series. The Angels came together this season after the tragic death of rookie pitcher Nick Adenhart, sporting his number on their jersey all season and even celebrating at his picture on the outfield wall after they clinched. The Yankees opened their new season and powered their way back to the top of the AL East, posting the best record in baseball. Young manager Joe Girardi will face up against veteran manager Mike Scoscia, who is considered one of the best managers in all of baseball.

Nearly a week away, this already has the makings of an epic series. In the end, it seems like it always comes down to who has the best pitching. My prediction: Angels in six.

We'll get a sense of that soon enough, but for now, I want to hear what you guys think?

Final Score in Los Angeles of Anaheim: Angels 4, Red Sox 1

TBS Announcer Don Orsillo can pretend that every routine play the Red Sox made on Friday in Anaheim was going to be a difference-maker, but the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim showed up to play baseball in front of their fans, not fantasy ball. And play ball they did, beating Josh Beckett in a revenge match for his April smackfest. Slapping Josh's fat little chipmunk cheeks was the bottom end of the Angels order, highlighted by an Erick Aybar triple that also made Jacoby Ellsbury crawl around on the warning track, momentarily disabled at the base of the Nick Adenhart memorial mural.

Aybar's masterful stroke came after a base hit by starting 2B Maicer Izturis broke a 1-1 tie and scored Howie Kendrick from 2nd base - the first stolen base of the series came with Kendrick pinch-running for Vladimir Guerrero. Beckett should have been taken out after walking - YES... unintentionally WALKING Vladdy. Is Terry Francona even watching these games? But how cool is it that after a season of platooning in the infield, Izzy drives in Howie. Wow.

In 14.2 ALDS innings, Angels starters have suffered 6 hits from the vaunted Boston offense. On cue, infamous turncoat Dennis Eckersley sings the praises of Lackey and Weaver LIVE form the TBS studios in Atlanta... with David Wells interrupting to change his sox and jump on the Halo bandwagon.

Pitcher Matt Palmer threw 5 innings of 1 hit ball and got his 11th win as the Angels again tuned up for the playoffs with more Salt Lake Bees than Angels on the field at the end of the contest.

5 Angel batters had a single RBI and 5 relievers combined to shut out a Texas team going through the motions. Darren Oliver threw an inning and struck out the side. While there is no guarantee that Palmer will even make the ALDS roster, he leads the team in Winning Percentage.

On the night Kendry Morales won the Team MVP award and Jered Weaver won the newly-minted Nick Adenhart award for the team's top pitcher of the season, the Angels scored their 866th run, tying the 1979 squad for most ever by an Angels team. They scored 851 in their championship 2002 season.
