The Mets signed 33-year-old left-handed hitting outfielder Rick Ankiel, severely cutting into the playing time of 25-year-old left-handed hitting outfielder Jordany Valdespin.
The once promising flamethrower is being moved to the 60-day DL to make room for Rick Ankiel on the 40-man roster.
The Mets are desperate for help in the outfield and Ankiel was available after being released by the Astros earlier this season.
Looking to add pop to the lineup, the Mets have signed 33-year-old outfielder Rick Ankiel. He will start in center field tonight in St. Louis.
