This isn't working. The Tigers should scrap the closer. Not just Valverde, scrap the whole concept of a closer.
The Tigers optioned Luke Putnoken to Triple-A to clear room for Coke.
Luke Putkonen impressed the Tigers during his call-up, but he was the odd man out when room needed to made on the roster for a healthy Phil Coke.
Detroit is now down two veteran relievers, as Coke battles his way through a groin strain.
Phil Coke was placed on the 15-day disabled list prior to the Tigers' road trip to Houston and Washington.
