  • A good athlete for a catcher, Mathis has an above-average power bat and pretty good mobility moving around behind the dish.
Flaws
  • As a catcher Mathis can get run on fairly easily by opposing base-stealers. As a hitter he needs to make more consistent contact.
Career Potential
  • A sort of poor-man's Piazza if he keeps working; good bat, but not a great arm behind the plate.
