Manager Don Mattingly reached out to the veteran third baseman recently to gauge his desire to return to baseball.
After an offseason's worth of retirement rumors, it looks like Scott Rolen might end up with the rest of the free agents: On the Los Angeles Dodgers. But whatever he does, he's managed to construct a Hall of Fame career already.
The veteran third baseman has yet to come to a decision about playing next season.
The Boston Red Sox have traded right-hander Zach Stewart to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for a player to be named later.
Scott Rolen has informed the Cincinnati Reds he may play in 2013, and Cincinnati is open to the veteran returning to the club in some capacity.
Rangers CEO Nolan Ryan isn't thrilled that Hamilton decided to quit chewing tobacco mid-season (which likely affected Hamilton's performance), and didn't offer much of a defense when asked if Hamilton quit on the Rangers at the end of the year.
