San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - Florida Marlins utilityman Alfredo Amezaga will undergo microfracture surgery on his left knee on Monday and will miss the rest of the season, the club announced Wednesday.
The procedure will be performed by Dr. Richard Steadman in Vail, Colorado.
Amezaga last played on May 16, and boasts a .217 batting average in 27 games this season. For his career, the 31-year-old switch-hitter owns a .251 average but his appeal to the club is his ability to play center and the infield well.
