Recap: NY Mets vs. Los Angeles

Sports Network | July 9, 2009

Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - Manny Ramirez went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in, two runs scored and a pair of walks, while Randy Wolf picked up his first win in over a month, as the Los Angeles Dodgers routed the New York Mets, 11-2, in the rubber match of a three-game set at Citi Field.

Wolf (4-3) went 6 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks to win his first game since May 28 at the Cubs, a span of seven starts without a victory. Wolf added to his impressive resume against the Mets, improving to an impressive 12-5 in 30 lifetime starts against New York.

Orlando Hudson, who stroked a three-run double, left the game in the top of the seventh after Brian Stokes drilled him on the left knee with a fastball. Rafael Furcal went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three runs scored for the Dodgers, who took a series from the Mets in New York for the first time since winning two of three tests at Shea Stadium from August 27-29, 2004.

Russell Martin hit a two-run double, and Juan Castro, who replaced Hudson at second base, laced a two-run single for Los Angeles, which improved to 5-2 over its last seven games.

Livan Hernandez (5-5) got blasted in four innings, allowing a season-high eight runs on a season-high 11 hits with four walks and two strikeouts to suffer his fourth straight loss. The last time the right-hander lost four consecutive outings was from June 18-July 3, 2002, while with the Giants.

Gary Sheffield went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run batted in and was ejected from the game after getting called out on strikes to end the seventh. Ryan Church had the other RBI for the Mets, who have lost five of six and 10 of 13. David Wright went 2-for-3 with a run scored in defeat.

The Dodgers got to Hernandez in the top of the first inning, plating four runs to build an early cushion. Furcal doubled, and Andre Ethier singled to put men on the corners for Ramirez, who stroked an RBI single to center. A James Loney walk, which loaded the bases, was sandwiched between a pair of outs. Hudson then cleared the bases with a double to left, but he was tagged out trying to go to third on the play.

New York got a run back in the home half of the frame on Sheffield's RBI single.

Los Angeles plated a pair of runs in the second to extend its margin to 6-1. Furcal singled, and Ethier walked to put men on first and second with two outs. Ramirez and Casey Blake followed with back-to-back RBI singles.

Church's RBI groundout in the third cut New York's deficit to four.

Martin stroked a two-run double with the bases loaded in the fourth to give the Dodgers a commanding 8-2 lead.

Castro, who replaced Hudson at second base, hit a two-run single in the eighth, and Matt Kemp followed with an RBI single to cap off the scoring.

The Mets' injury problems continued on Thursday, as the team put rookie outfielder Fernando Martinez on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right knee. Infielder Argenis Reyes, who was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo following Tuesday night's game to make a spot for pitcher Oliver Perez, was recalled from Buffalo to replace Martinez on the roster...Reyes went 0-for-1 as a pinch-hitter on Thursday...The Dodgers have won five of six 2009 meetings with the Mets.
