Mets' Reyes to have surgery

Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes is scheduled to undergo surgery to clean up scar tissue around the hamstring tendon behind his right knee.
The procedure will be performed by Dr. Daniel E. Cooper, the head team physician for the NFL's Dallas Cowboys and NHL's Dallas Stars. Cooper is considered the leading expert in the country in the surgical treatment of the chronically torn hamstring tendon.
A date for the surgery has yet to be determined, but the Mets say Reyes is expected to be recovered for spring training in 2010.
Reyes played just 36 games in 2009 and none after May 20 because of the nagging hamstring injury. He batted just .279 with two homers, 15 runs batted in and 11 stolen bases.
While trying to return to the field in September, Reyes also suffered a torn hamstring. The Mets said Reyes will not need surgery for that injury.
