Mets' Reyes has successful surgery

Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes had successful surgery on Thursday to clean up scar tissue throughout his right leg, including the area around his bothersome hamstring.
The procedure was performed by Dr. Daniel E. Cooper, the head team physician for the NFL's Dallas Cowboys and NHL's Dallas Stars. Cooper is considered the leading expert in the country in the surgical treatment of the chronically torn hamstring tendon.
The 26-year-old will undergo rehab and is scheduled to resume baseball-related activities after the new year.
Reyes played just 36 games in 2009 and none after May 20 because of the nagging hamstring injury. He batted just .279 with two homers, 15 runs batted in and 11 stolen bases.
While trying to return to the field in September, Reyes also suffered a torn hamstring. The Mets said Reyes will not need surgery for that injury.
