Mariners announce 2010 coaching staff

Sports Network | October 19, 2009

Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - The Seattle Mariners retained the services of bench coach Ty Van Burkleo, pitching coach Rick Adair, hitting coach Alan Cockrell, first base coach Lee Tinsley, bullpen coach John Wetteland and performance coach Steve Hecht for the 2010 season, while dismissing third base coach Bruce Hines, the club announced on Monday.

The 51-year-old Hines was let go after only one season with the Mariners after serving as the minor league field coordinator for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim from 2006-2008.

Van Burkleo, Adair, Cockrell, Tinsley, Wetteland and Hecht will all be entering their second season under manager Don Wakamatsu.

Seattle showed marked improvement in 2009, finishing with an 85-77 record, which was good for third place in the American League West after compiling the worst record in the AL -- 61-101 -- in 2008.
