(Sports Network) - The San Francisco Giants hope to continue their tear at season's end, as they resume a three-game set Saturday night against the NL West-rival San Diego Padres at Petco Park.

San Francisco has won five in a row and handed the Padres a 7-2 setback in Friday's series opener thanks to a six-run seventh inning. Pablo Sandoval and Juan Uribe both homered and Barry Zito held the Friars to a run over 5 1/3 frames in the no-decision. Brandon Medders got the last two outs in sixth inning for the win.

"I thought we hit a few balls hard early and didn't have much to show for it," said Giants manager Bruce Bochy. "We swung (the bats) well in the (seventh) inning. We got a couple breaks and took advantage of them."

Matt Cain has won a career-high 14 games this season and will try to add to it Saturday, when he makes his 33rd start. Cain ended a three-start losing streak the last time out on Sunday versus the Chicago Cubs and delivered eight shutout innings and eight K's to improve to 14-7 with a 2.88 ERA.

The bulky right-hander, who is 7-3 in 15 road tests this season, will try to even his career mark against San Diego tonight. Cain owns a 4-5 record and a solid 2.87 ERA in 17 career meetings with the Padres.

San Diego had a brief two-game winning streak stopped on Friday and lost for the third time in five tries. Kevin Correia started for the Padres and was saddled with the loss for giving up five runs -- three earned -- in six innings of work.

"Today wasn't great, but I think I still threw the ball pretty well. That (seventh) inning just kind of got away from us," Correia said.

Henry Blanco homered and Oscar Salazar added the other RBI in a losing effort.

Wade LeBlanc will take the mound for San Diego on Saturday and he is 2-1 with a 4.35 ERA in eight trips to the mound this season. He hasn't record a decision in each of his past three starts and previously toed the rubber in an 8-5 loss at Arizona on September 26.

LeBlanc was reached for four runs and seven hits in five innings, and has lasted at least five innings in six consecutive mound appearances. The lefty faced the Giants for the time in his career on September 9 this season at AT&T Park, and earned the win with seven innings of two-run ball.

San Diego leads the 2009 season series with San Francisco by a 9-7 count, but had its six-game home winning streak stopped yesterday.
