Recap: San Diego vs. San Francisco

San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Wade LeBlanc hurled seven strong innings, as the San Diego Padres posted a 2-0 win over the San Francisco Giants in the middle installment of a three-game set at Petco Park.

LeBlanc (3-1) scattered two hits, walked one and struck out a career-high eight batters. Mike Adams tossed a perfect eighth and Heath Bell worked around a two-out walk in the ninth for his 42nd save.

"I didn't really expect to pitch behind a lot," said LeBlanc. "That's what you do to be successful."

Adrian Gonzalez had three hits and knocked in a run -- his 99th of the season -- for the Padres, who have won three of their last four games.

San Francisco starting pitcher Matt Cain (14-8) was the hard-luck loser after yielding two runs on six hits in five full frames. Pablo Sandoval and Jesus Guzman were the only players to collect a hit for the Giants, who had a five- game winning streak snapped.

"It was just one of those days they kept fouling balls off," said Cain. "Sometimes you can't do anything about it. I made some couple of pitches in the middle of the plate in the first and obviously more of the same in the third."

The Padres got on the board in the first when David Eckstein walked and came around on a base hit by Chase Headley. The third inning began with three consecutive singles, the last one by Gonzalez plated Tony Gwynn.

Before the game, San Diego fired general manager Kevin Towers...The Padres recorded their ninth shutout of the season...It's the 10th time this year San Francisco failed to score a run...San Diego leads the 2009 season series with San Francisco by a 10-7 count.
