MLS 2012, Midweek 29 preview and fixtures: It's a car crash Wednesday

Anne-Marie Sorvin-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Wednesday will either bore or be a disaster, and you have to watch and root for the latter.

You know that car crash you can't turn away from? That is like Wednesday's MLS action.

In both matches, a team in playoff contention is playing a hapless club that has been out of the race for months and there are two possible outcomes. The match can either be horribly boring and go as expected or there is an upset that blows everything to pieces.

Thankfully, this isn't life or death, but the same principles apply. You kind of want the horror.

Chicago Fire vs. Philadelphia Union

Wednesday, 8:30 p.m. ET, MLS Live

Do you believe in magic, in a young girl's heart? How the music can free her, whenever it starts.

Sporting cannot ruin the Fire. They make are still phenomenal. They still make no sense. They are still magic.

Pick: Chicago, 3-1.

Vancouver Whitecaps vs. Chivas USA

Wednesday, 10:00 p.m. ET, MLS Live

Forget the playoff race and the whole season and points or whatever else. If the Whitecaps do not beat the Goats at home, they are eliminated from the playoffs. The end.
