Goals by Martin Rivero and Kamani Hill powered the Rapids past a Chivas team that just wishes the season would end.
Neither the Colorado Rapids nor Chivas USA have a chance at the playoffs. They were mathematically eliminated weeks ago, and realistically eliminated months ago. But while just playing out the rest of their schedule because they have to, the two teams had a chance to get a morale boosting win. Unsurprisingly, it was not Chivas who was going to get it as the Rapids walked into the Home Depot Center and came away 2-0 winners.
Martin Rivero put the Rapids on top in the 16th minute when a cross was flicked onto the back post, where Rivero was standing completely unmarked. He had time to settle and then fire past Tim Melia, who was in for the injured Dan Kennedy. Melia had no chance as Rivero's shot whistled past him and Colorado went a goal up.
Colorado doubled their lead when a horrendous back pass by Peter Vagenas sparked the Rapids' break. Omar Cummings jumped on the wayward pass then hit a pinpoint cross for Kamani Hill, who was all alone at the back post. A good header by Hill once again left Melia no chance and the Rapids were on their way to a rare win while the Goats took a familiar loss.
