Frank Yallop led the San Jose Earthquakes to the Supporters' Shield.

After leading the San Jose Earthquakes to the Supporters' Shield a year after they were among the league's worst teams, Frank Yallop was named the runaway winner for 2012 MLS Coach of the Year. Yallop won at least 58 percent of the vote from all three voting blocs, with an astounding 74 percent of the clubs dubbing him the winner.

Peter Vermes and Ben Olsen came in second and third, respectively, but neither garnered more than 16 percent from any bloc.

Yallop's tactics were not necessarily appreciated by all, but his results were undeniable. The Earthquakes led MLS with 72 goals scored and went 19-6-9 during the regular season. Their 66 points were just two shy of the MLS record, set by the 1998 LA Galaxy.
