Fabricio Werdum Eyes Possible March Matchup With Alistair Overeem

Word coming today via our friends over at CagePotato that Fabricio Werdum is looking for a return to competition as early as March of 2011. Werdum is rehabilitating after his recent surgery to repair a lingering elbow injury.

While a rematch with Fedor Emelianenko seemed to be in the works, it looks like Werdum's win over 'the Last Emperor' in June could have been enough to make him the next No. 1 heavyweight contender.

Werdum and Overeem met once before at Pride Total Elimination Absolute in May 2006, with Werdum winning by second-round kimura. At the time, Werdum says he had zero standup training to speak of. Now, he's a more complete fighter, and is certain that he'll finish Overeem in the first round of their rematch. "Overeem is my son, there's no problem" Werdum says with a laugh.

Werdum also claims that he thinks Fedor is still the top heavyweight in the world — even after their fight earlier this summer. He also predicts his friend and training partner — Babalu Sobral — will defeat Dan Henderson in this Saturday's Strikeforce main event.
