Ultimate Fighter veteran and former NFL player Matt Mitrione improved to 3-0 in his career with an impressive unanimous decision victory over Joey Beltran.
Beltran was able to survive a rocky opening to round 1 to stun Mitrione with punches and take him down. On the ground Mitrione tried to lock in triangle chokes but mostly ate large punches from Beltran. This secured the first round on the cards for Beltran. The second and third rounds were all Mitrione though as he managed to work forward using light footwork and stiff jabs to constantly force Beltran backward. When Beltran would get near the cage Mitrione would open up with punches. Several times Mitrione allowed himself to get into large, sloppy punch trades with Beltran which were the only positive periods "The Mexicutioner" had in the second and third rounds.
In the end all judges saw the fight 29-28 for Matt Mitrione.
