All we've heard since the fight between Melvin Guillard and Jeremy Stephens was made was that it was a sure fire slugfest that would absolutely compete for fight of the night. Unfortunately, when two heavy hitters meet in the cage sometimes they are hesitant to engage and possibly be badly hurt and finished.
This was absolutely the case as Guillard and Stephens came in and threw very few meaningful strikes over the course of three rounds. Guillard used quick feet to dance around and occasionally land punches while Stephens seemed to do the better work with hard leg kicks and occasional wild hooks that mostly missed the mark.
The judges scored the fight 29-28 Guillard, 29-28 Stephens and 30-27 Guillard giving Melvin the split decision.
