Brian Stann dropped down for 185 for the first time in his career and wasted no time in asking for a very tough fight against Chris Leben. Leben had a tremendous 2010, closing out the year with a pair of huge wins over Aaron Simpson and Yoshihiro Akiyama. Stann proved quickly that the move to middleweight was probably a tremendous thing for his career.
The two men traded shots early with Leben getting the first big punch in with an uppercut. Stann stayed calm though and badly hurt Leben with a flurry. Leben survived and got back to his feet only to get knocked down by hard shots again. He then struggled back to his feet again and was dropped again. Stann refused to let up and finally forced the referee to step in and call an end to the bout.
This was a huge win for Stann that should earn him some more very interesting and very relevant fights in his new weight class.
