UFC Fight for the Troops 2 Results: Melvin Guillard Runs Through Evan Dunham

Evan Dunham was riding high coming into UFC Fight for the Troops 2. Many thought that he had won his last bout against former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk and he appeared to be a guy who was on the rise in the 155 pound division. Melvin Guillard put an quick halt to much of the hype surrounding Dunham with a first round stoppage. Guillard was showcased his incredibly fast hands in landing several hard shots that rocked and slowed Dunham early in the fight. Dunham was able to get a takedown but Guillard quickly moved his back to the cage and got to his feet where he continued the assault. As Dunham tried for a takedown Melvin defended and landed a knee. Dunham's legs went out on him and Melvin landed two more knees that forced the stoppage.

With the win Melvin has now won four straight fights and seven of his last eight and should be considered a legitimate challenger for the lightweight title.

UFC Fight for the Troops 2 Results - Matt Mitrione Demolishes Tim Hague

Matt Mitrione has improved every time he has stepped into the UFC cage and tonight was no different as he had no trouble stopping Tim Hague in the first round. Hague had a few moments where he landed leg kicks but Mitrione did the same in addition to landing heavy punches. Eventually Hague crumbled under the heavy punches of Mitrione and flopped to his back, covering up and offering no offense. Mitrione landed a few more shots before the ref had to step in and stop the bout.

Mitrione will need to continue to evolve but has a shot at becoming a legitimate contender in the heavyweight division.

UFC Fight for the Troops 2 Results - Mark Hominick Earns Title Shot With Stoppage Of George Roop

Mark Hominick was told that a win over George Roop would land him a featherweight title shot against Jose Aldo. He made sure that he was not going to be denied by stopping Roop in the first round. Early on Roop was trying to keep the fight at distance with his long reach but eventually Hominick started to get inside and land punches. Roop was dropped multiple times in the round and finally the ref jumped in to stop the fight even though Roop was throwing his legs up to defend. Roop protested the stoppage but his legs were so shot from the punches that he was barely able to remain on his feet to congratulate Hominick after the fight.

Hominick will have a huge uphill battle against Aldo but has looked very impressive as of late and absolutely deserves his shot.

UFC Fight for the Troops 2 - Pat Barry Struggles To Defeat Joey Beltran

Pat Barry was a big favorite to defeat Joey Beltran at UFC Fight for the Troops 2 but he struggled mightily throughout the fight. While all three judges saw the fight as a win for Barry he was in with one of the lowest level heavyweight brawlers the UFC has to offer and found himself controlled at times. Barry had trouble with Beltran's simple boxing combinations and tendency to push him into the cage and control space. In the end it was Barry's hard leg kicks that eventually had Beltran barely able to stand by the final bell and he had clearly pulled ahead. Still, for a guy many consider a big prospect he had far too much trouble in the stand-up with a rough around the edges brawler.

We'll see what Barry can do in 2011 to impress more than he did tonight. But, in the end, a win is what matters. And Barry got the win.

UFC Fight for the Troops 2 Results - Matt Wiman Neutralizes Cole Miller

Matt Wiman vs. Cole Miller was exciting and competitive on paper and most people expected it to be very close. Matt Wiman had other ideas as he took down Miller in each round and once he was on top he used his exceptionally underrated ground game to avoid any sweeps or submissions and did a lot of damage with punches and elbows from the top. SBN scored every round for Wiman to give him a 30-27 win, two of the judges agreed and one saw it 29-28 (also for Wiman).

With the win Wiman has now won three consecutive fights and after only stepping in the cage once in 2010 we can only hope he is more active this year as he has quickly improved into a truly solid lightweight.

UFC Fight for the Troops 2 Results: Yves Edwards Chokes Out Cody McKenzie

Reality show veteran Cody McKenzie came into UFC Fight for the Troops 2 riding a streak of ten straight fights won with his trademark variation on the guillotine choke. Tonight veteran Yves Edwards was the one applying the choke — in this case a classic rear naked choke — to McKenzie, finishing him in the second round.

Edwards is an old school UFC fighter who has spent a few years in the wilderness. This is his second win since returning to the organization.

UFC Fight for the Troops 2 Results: Rani Yahya Dominates Mike Brown

Rani Yahya came in to tonights featherweight tilt against former champ Mike Brown regarded as a one-dimensional grappler. Now he’s a one-dimensional grappler with a unanimous decision win over former champ Mike Brown.

Yahya managed to avoid Brown’s powerful right hand on the feet and forced enough of the action to the ground to get the win. Yahya trains under legendary MMA pioneer and many time jiu jitsu champion Rickson Gracie and it showed.

Brown took the fight on short notice. He’s lost his first two UFC fights now after dropping his debut against Diego Nunes at UFC 125. Brown is 2-4 since losing his WEC title to Jose Aldo. Aldo is now the UFC featherweight champ.

UFC Fight for the Troops 2 Results: Waylon Lowe Edges Willamy Freire

It wasn’t pretty but Waylon Lowe’s double leg take down was effective. The wrestler rode his advantage in take downs to a unanimous decision win over Williamy Freire.

Freire spent most of the fight on his back in guard. He didn’t take a lot of damage from Lowe, but Freire didn’t get off any notable offense from his back either. In the first round Referee Dan Miragliotta broke up the action while Freire was threatening with a kimura. In the third Friere got top position and landed some sharp elbows but Lowe regained top position.

The fight doesn’t have much of an impact on the UFC lightweight division but this win will keep Lowe in the organization.
