It opened the show at UFC 127: Penn vs. Fitch and Maciej Jewtuszko vs. Curt Warburton was supposed to be a fairly easy test for the Polish prospect in Jewtuszko against the British Wolfslair fighter in Warburton. But the last plans of mice and men often go awry. That was not what happened tonight.
In the opening frame, both fighters tried to do what they do best. Maciej Jewtuszko began the first round by throwing head kicks, using movement and trying to turn the fight into a striking contest. Curt Warburton was having none of it. The major surprise was how Warburton was not only able to control the fight on ground, but on the feet as well. His combination of improved striking and wrestling kept Jewtuszko off balance and on the bad end of judges' decision.
Brett Okamoto on Twitter gave the news of the judges' decision:
All three give it a 29-28 score for Warburton.
UFC 127 results: Curt Warburton defeats Maciej Jewtuszko by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
