UFC 127 Results: Nick Ring Gets Gift Decision Against Riki Fukuda

The first fight airing on ION Television for UFC 127: Penn vs. Fitch is Nick Ring vs. Riki Fukuda. Riki Fukuda, now with Grabaka, has been active while Nick Ring, a season 11-participant of "The Ultimate Fighter", had been coming off a long layoff. I considered Ring to be the better fighter, but how would the layoff affect him?

The referee in charge of the action is Leon Roberts.

ROUND 1 - Fukuda opens up taking outside position standing with Ring working leg kicks early in the center of the cage. A minute into the fight and Ring is lighting Fukuda up with leg kicks. Fukuda lands a double leg against the fence and passes to side to keep Ring on his back. Ring recovers full guard and attempts a triangle eventually lets go. Fukuda holds a front head lock as they scramble, both fighters release. Left hand from Fukuda finds the mark. More outside leg kicks from Ring, but the power is not overwhelming. Left hand from Fukuda lands, but Ring follows up with a knee. Fukuda shoots and is stuffed. Fukuda changes levels and turns the corner to get the takedown.

ROUND 2 - Fukuda closing the gap early with Ring on his horse. Nice left hand lands for Fukuda, but another outside leg kick for Ring. Jab from Ring. Fukuda nicely times a shot, but Ring still stuffs it. Now the takedown lands for Fukuda, but he's not able to do much with it. The fighters now stand. Fukuda shoots again, but off of Ring's punch and it's stuffed. Now the two clinch fight. Fukuada somewhat checks Ring's outside kick. Nice outside leg kick from Ring. And another. A charging right hook from Fukuda misses. Now a left. Fukuda dirty boxes and Ring knees the Japanese fighter's midsection.

ROUND 3 - an early jab from Fukuda then a leg kick exchange. More dirty boxing from Fukuda and a perfectly timed shot puts Ring on his back. Ring uses his feet to create distance off of Fukuda's hips and stands. More dirty boxing from Fukuda. Outside leg kick from Ring, but a fantastic shot from Fukuda puts Ring on the mat again. Fukuda threatens with a three-quarter stack and then recaptures the front head lock to control Ring's posture. Moderate ground and pound from Fukuda now in half guard. Referee Leon Roberts stands the fighters up.
