UFC 127 Results: Michael Bisping Bludgeons Jorge Rivera

The co-main event of the evening (UFC 127: Penn vs. Fitch) tonight was Michael Bisping vs. Jorge Rivera. Bisping wanted to make the case that he deserved a title shot. Rivera wanted to prove he belonged among the elite of the division.

The referee in charge of the action is Marc Goddard. The fighters do not touch gloves.

ROUND 1 - Rivera fires a right and misses. Wide stance from Bisping as the Brit is moving widely from the outside. Rivera head hunting right away with the right hand. A charging double leg from Bisping puts Rivera on the mat, but the Boston native stands. The right hand does land for Rivera and the latin fighter stuffs a shot from the British. A third attempt from Bisping works and Rivera is on his back. In a scramble, Rivera moves to his knees and Bisping lands an illegal knee. Referee Marc Goddard stops the action. Rivera says he can continue and the fight resumes. Bisping is deducted a point. Rivera still head hunting and misses. Bisping attempts a double leg and is rebuffed. Of a counterpunch from Rivera, Bisping lands a takedown. Rivera back to his feet now.

ROUND 2 - big right hand from Rivera lands and stumbles Bisping, but the Brit recovers. Bisping cornering Rivera now by taking control of the space. Two shots attempted and stuffed. Bisping lands a hard right hand. And another. And another. Rivera mostly covering up. Rivera falls to his knees and referee Marc Goddard stops the fight.
