The second fight on the UFC 128: Shogun vs. Jones fight card is a welterweight bout between Xtreme Couture's Mike Pyle and Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Ricardo Almeida. Pyle came into this bout with a surprising and dominate win over John Hathaway. Almeida came into this fight after a loss to former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes, although his most recent win came over T.J. Grant at UFC 124.

ROUND 1 - Both fighters start out orthodox. Fighters exchange leg kicks, inside for outside in the first minute. Uppercut lands for Pyle as Almeida is ducks reaching for a right hand. From underhooks, Pyle trips Almeida and sends him crashing to mat, but does not follow up. Almeida attempts a takedown, but drives so fast Pyle is able to stand easily. A right hand slightly rocks Pyle, but he's still able to stuff takedown attempts. Knee misses for Pyle. Close round.

ROUND 2 - Pyle pawing with jab. Side kick for Almeida actually lands. Pyle over commits on a punch and is taken down, but Pyle is able to stand and achieve underhooks. Failed single from Almeida and Pyle lands a knee. Right hand partially blocked by Pyle as well as a takedown, but Almeida stands. Hard outside leg kick by Pyle. Right hand and Almeida uses it to get a double leg. Pyle tries to lock up a kimura but lets go. Another very close round.

ROUND 3 - Not much action to start the round. Both fighters exchange leg kicks that are more feints than anything. Lots movement from both fighters, neither landing anything significant. Left hook to the body for Pyle. Hard knee from Pyle and a takedown. Almeida working from butterfly, but Pyle backs out and Almeida tries a De La Riva sit-up to attempt a single. Almeida's single goes nowhere and he eats another knee. And another HUGE one. Almeida gets a take down, but Pyle pops up immediately. Pyle lands an outside trip, but Almeida stands immediately.
