The third fight of UFC Fight Night 24 is Johny Hendricks vs. T.J. Waldburger, a welterweight bout and the final unaired preliminary match. Waldburger was returning to UFC action after a decision win in his UFC debut. Hendricks is trying to rebound after a thorough defeat at the hands of Rick Story.
There wasn't much to this one. Hendricks ended it early and with potential Knockout of the Night honors awaiting him at the event's conclusion.
At the beginning of the round Waldburger threw a kick and Hendricks timed it with excellent precision. The hard shot dropped Waldburger to the canvas and the referee stopped the fight immediately.
Hendricks still has a ton of hype to live up to, but this clearly separates him from the UFC welterweights who struggle for roster spots. It's also further evidence that he has striking power to compliment his considerable wrestling game.
UFC Fight Night 24 results: Johny Hendricks def. T.J. Waldburger via TKO (punches) at 1:35 of round 1.
