The fifth fight of the night at UFC on Versus 3 is a lighweight match between Shane Roller and Thiago Tavares. Tavares entered this bout after a nice win over Pat Audinwood at UFC 119. Roller, fresh off of his win over Jamie Varner, was making his UFC debut tonight. A big win here put either fighter far ahead on the steep UFC lightweight ladder.

Much to everyone's surprise, Tavares came out striking in the first round, landing on Roller. Even more impressively, he was able to work strong defensively wrestling to keep the fight out of where Roller is best - the floor. Then, unexpectedly, Roller, the former Oklahoma State wrestler, knocked down Thiago Tavares with straight punches right down the middle. He followed it up with a few more shots before the referee was forced to stop the bout. Certainly a result not many had predicted and a very big win for the former All-American.
