At the first fight of the night at Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson, upstarts John Kuhner and J.P. Felty looked to make a name for themselves at a large-scale event. Kuhner came into this bout winless. Felty was making his pro debut.
It didn't look good for Kuhner early. In the first round, which MMA Fighting scored has a 10-9 round for Felty. While Kuhner was winning the striking battle, he was taken down three times. Felty landed enough damage along the way to convincingly take the round. Kuhner was en route to his third straight loss.
But things changed in the second round. At first Kuhner looked good, taking Felty's back and almost landing a choke. He made several clean attempts at it, but simply couldn't find the sweet spot. Kuhner eventually rolled to mount. From there he was able to do a sit-in triangle and roll off of his own base to secure the choke. The referee didn't see it until Felly was already out, giving Kuhner his first professional mixed martial arts win.
Strikeforce results: John Kuhner defeated J.P. Felty via submission (triangle choke) at 4:31 of round two.
