A video teaser of this week's 'Countdown to UFC 129: St. Pierre vs. Shields' has been released. I already like this more than the UFC: Primetime series, although perhaps because it's already serving as an accompaniment to the aforementioned show. Still, the Countdown series are always good about shedding light on the event as a whole and at the top, very few events have more depth than this one. Randy Couture, six-time world champion, is in the featured bout, beyond the main and co-main. That should tell you quite a bit.
And frankly, that's the strength of UFC 129. Georges St. Pierre vs. Jake Shields and Jose Aldo vs. Mark Hominick are excellent, impactful fights, but the true draw to UFC 129 is the entire event itself. No one fight carries so much significance or anticipation that it's must-see. But the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. In fact, the significane of each fight is being elevated simply because of the size of the crowd. UFC 129, in totality, is gigantic and that's hopefully what this Countdown show will ultimately convey.
'Countdown to UFC 129' airs tomorrow, Tuesday, at midnight.
