UFC 129 Results: Claude Patrick Decisions Daniel Roberts

The last fight of the Facebook portion of the UFC 129: St. Pierre vs. Shields is Daniel Roberts vs. Claude Patrick. This is a welterweight (170lbs) fight among top rising prospects. Both are submission savvy and both come from excellent camps. Each enters this bout with only one loss each.

The referee in charge of the action is Dan Miragliotta.

ROUND 1 - Roberts charges across the cage, but Patrick uses to pick up and dump Roberts to the mat. Patrick now working from half guard. Roberts is reaching for a kimura and appears to be straining hard to get it, but Patrick defends and they both stand. Left hand lead for Patrick partially finds the mark. Same for a right cross. Both fighters clinch along the fence and jockey for position. Hard left over the top lands for Patrick and now he's initiating the clinch. Inside trip for Patrick lands and he's working on top. Patrick angles over for a head and arm triangle, but Roberts defends. Patrick defends therubber guard, stands and Patrick separates. The Canadian is landing hard left hands over and over again. The fighters clinch and the round ends here.

ROUND 2 - Patrick starts round two stalking in the center of the cage. Outside leg kick for Patrick and Roberts grabs it and uses it a single to take Patrick to the floor. Patrick whizzers hard and is able to stand. Both fighters jockey for position along the fence and as they separate Patrick lands a nice knee. Hard middle kick from Roberts to the body of Patrick. Patrick dives in for a double leg against the fence and gets it. Patrick tries to avoid a guilotine to go to pass, but Roberts uses it to reverse and be on top in side control. Patrick recovers full guard. Patrick tries to stand, Roberts attempts to put both hooks in, can't and tries to drag him to the floor. Patrick eventually turns into Roberts and shakes free.

ROUND 3 - Patrick stalking already and trying to find the moment to land the cross. Hard middle kick from Roberts lands. Patrick catches a kick and uses it to clinch against the fence. Patrick removes the post leg from Roberts and is now on top on the ground. Patrick moves to mount briefly before Roberts reclaims full butterfly guard. Roberts hip escapes and both fighters stand. Roberts tries to drive in on a knee tap, but is stuffed and now the fighters clinch along the fence. Roberts gets double underhooks and is trying to find a variety of takedowns, but Patrick pummels in. The referee separates them. Front kick lands for Patrick. Charging takedown for Roberts goes nowhere. Patrick tries to land a guillotine at the close of the round, but nothing doing.
