UFC 129 Results: Jose Aldo Decisions Mark Hominick In Spirited Challenge

The co-main event of the evening at UFC 129: St. Pierre vs. Shields is Mark Hominick vs. Jose Aldo. This is for the UFC featherweight title (145lbs). The bout is scheduled for five five-minute rounds. This marks Aldo's first UFC title defense as well as his first UFC fight. This is Hominick's first major MMA title shot.

ROUND 1 - Both fighters start orthodox. Hard uppercut from Aldo backs up Hominick. Another hard uppercut to the body lands on hominick. Liver punch and outside leg kick for Aldo finds the mark. Left hook to the body for Hominick. Short left hook for Aldo glances, but hard outside leg kick finds the mark. Again double combo body shot and outside leg kick for Aldo. Aldo drives Hominick back and onto the ground. Hominick attempts an arm bar but eats an elbow and lets it go. Aldo working now in full guard on top landing so-so GNP. Aldo holding Hominick down in full guard with a cross face and short elbows. Hard right hand now for Aldo. The referee stands them up. Left hook for Hominick partially lands, but he drives Hominick back to the mat.

ROUND 2 - Hominick is cut under his right eye. Hominick doing the stalking in round round two now. Liver shots from Hominick back Aldo up. Hard lead uppercut from Aldo now. Again Hominick goes to the liver. Aldo counter boxes and lands a short left. Aldo reaches for a takedown and is stuffed. Aldo showing excellent head movement dodging a ton of Hominick's jabs. Hard jab for Hominick. Double leg scoop for Aldo. Working now in Hominick's full guard, neither is doing a whole lot. Right hand over the top for Aldo. Short elbow now for the Brazilian, but there's nothing too effective. Referee stands them up now. Right hand lands for Hominick just before he lands another takedown. Aldo not doing much on top. Much better round for Hominick, but still close.

ROUND 3 - Both fighter trade jabs, neither particularly impactful. Short quick punches now for Hominick. Hard outside leg kick for Aldo. Left hook for Hominick. Crisp head movement for Aldo. Left hook clips Hominick, but he stuffs the shot from Aldo directly after. Monster outside leg kick for Aldo lands again. Left hook from Aldo works as well. Hominick is being steady with the jab. Fighters trade left hooks. Knee tap for Aldo is eventually stuffed by Hominick. Again, the jab of hominick is working. Hard right hand for Aldo. Hard right hand clips Hominick and sends him crashing to the mat. Aldo on top, tired, working in Hominick's full guard. That's the most significant punch of the fight. Short elbows on top now for Aldo. Round ends there.

ROUND 4 - The dynamic picks up right where it left off. HARD outside leg kick again for Aldo. Another right hand lands for Aldo as well as an inadvertent groin shot. Another leg kick for Aldo. Left hook now for the Brazilian. hominick appears to be fading a touch. Another outside leg kick and another to Hominick. Left hook counter from Aldo and again the leg kick lands. Two nice jabs from Hominick before he's dropped again by Aldo. Now the Brazilian is working on top in Hominick's closed guard. A huge hematoma has appeared on the forehead of Hominick and Aldo is gunning for it. Hominick looks like Hasim Rahman. The ref has brought in the ringside doctor and he is inspecting it. The doctor lets it go. Wow. Hominick is a tough guy. Right hand lands again for Aldo and drives Hominick back. Aldo uses that to take the Canadian down again.

ROUND 5 - Hominick starting the round with less cautious pace and eats another outside leg kick. Gigantic uppercut from Aldo wobbles Hominick, but the Canadian takes Aldo to the mat. Nice left hands from Hominick on top and the crowd erupts in joy. Hominick is landing a lot on Aldo now, but the champion appears to be calm. Aldo just covering up and absorbing punishment with very little defensive maneuvering. More GNP from Hominick and Aldo is doing nothing in return. 45 seconds left and Aldo is taking a beating.
