Bellator 40 airs live on MTV2 at 9 p.m. ET to kick off their light heavyweight tournament with four quarterfinal bouts. The show features champion Ben Askren vs. Nick Thompson in non-title fight, Jay Hieron vs. Brent Weedman, and Lloyd Woodard vs. Michael Chandler. Bellator 40 Results: Ben Askren Dominates Nick Thompson Over Fifteen Minutes

This is the live blog for Ben Askren vs. Nick Thompson. Askren is the current Bellator welterweight champion, defeating Lyman Good at Bellator 33 for the title. He is undefeated in seven bouts, and he won Bellator's welterweight tournament in their second season. Nick Thompson is 38-13-1 in MMA over an 8-year career. Thompson has lost his last three fights, including a third-round knockout to Taisuke Okuno at Sengoku Raiden Championship 14. Askren's welterweight title will not be on the line for this fight.

Round 1 - Askren finds himself on his back to open, but he squirms his way on top of Thompson. Askren fighting for position control. Punches from Askren. He stands, and Thompson tries for a heel hook. He lets go, and Askren ends up in side control. Elbows from Askren now. Thompson is bleeding from his nose. Askren trying to trap Thompson's left arm. Thompson gives up his back, and Askren is unloading hammer fists from the ride position. Back into side control now. And Thompson gives up his back again. And side control. Askren throwing strikes at every opportunity thus far. Thompson has nothing for Askren thus far. Thirty seconds left now. Thompson works his way back to his feet, but not for long. Askren is really impressive with his striking volume on the floor here.

Round 2 - Thompson missing with punches. Askren dives in and grabs a body lock. Takedown to side control. This is familiar territory. More punches from Askren. Thompson gives up his back. Askren has a hook in, and he's looking for the rear-naked choke. Thompson escapes, and Askren moves back on top. Askren standing now. He is just workign Thompson. Thompson gives up his back. Askren loses position, but ends up on top shortly after. More punches. Side control. Knees to the body. Thomopson is breathing heavy. Half-guard now. Askren passes to side control.

Round 3 - Spinning back first from Askren. He's probably going to try some stuff out this round. Right hand from Thompson may have hurt Askren, but he recovers to take Thompson down into, where else, side control. Full guard now. Short punches to the midsection from Askren. Thompson trying to scramble to his feet, but he just gives up his back. He rolls back into half-guard. Askren passes to side control. Thompson is just trying to hold on to Askren at this point. Askren has a hold of Thompson's neck, but isn't in a position to finish. This is starting to get repetitive. Askren looks very good with a minute to go. Askren's on his back with 15 seconds to go, and Thompson is throwing any strike he can think of.

Bellator 40 Results: Jay Hieron Grinds Out A Decision From Brett Weedman

This is the live blog for Jay Hieron vs. Brent Weedman. Hieron owns a 20-4 MMA record. He advanced to the welterweight semifinals by submitting Anthony Lapsley by rear-naked choke at Bellator 35. Brent Weedman is 18-5-1 in MMA. Weedman earned a unanimous decision over Dan Hornbuckle at Bellator 35 to advance to the semifinals. The winner of this fight will meet Rick Hawn in the welterweight tournament finals.

Round 1 - Our referee for this bout is Jason Herzog. Hieron lands a nice combination, but Weedman responds with a combo of his own, dropping Hieron. Weedman secures mount, but Hieron is doing his best to scramble. Weedman loses position after a rear-naked choke attempt. Hieron controlling Weedman's head in the scramble. He's got a D'arce choke applied, but it doesn't look deep enough. He releases the hold, but mainstains control. Hieron in full guard now. He passes to half-guard, and is staying active on top. Back into full guard after a scramble. Punches from the top. Weedman kicks him off, but Hieron maintains pressure and ends up back on top. Punches from Hieron. A minute left in the round. Weedman pushes off. Both men missing punches in exchanges as the round ends.

Nice two punch combo from Hieron. Nice right-left from Hieron staggers Weedman. Hieron looks to be getting the better of the striking. Hieron uses the cage to launch a Superman punch. Hieron has a cut around his right eye. Weedman lands a combo that ends with a leg kick. Thirty seconds left in the round. They trade jabs. Hieron with a straight right.

Weedman has control of the back without any hooks. Hieron tries to roll, but Weedman cuts him off and ends up in side control. Weedman has the mount now. Hieron spinning, and he ends up on top. Bellator 40 Results: Josh Burns vs. Eric Prindle

This is the live blog for Josh Burns vs. Eric Prindle. This heavyweight bout took place in the preliminary portion of the evening.

Round 1 - Prindle is huge. Jimmy Smith notes that they had dinner together last night. Clinch. The two trade punches and knees to the midsection. Leg kick from Prindle lands in the groin. When we resume, a good left hand from Prindle sends Burns down to the mat momentarily. Wild exchange now. Seriously, Prindle is huge. Nice left hook from Prindle. Burns with a wild combination of hooks. Burns' face is discolored and scraped. The two trade jabs. Burns is throwing wild punches. Prindle is a little marked up around his left eye. Nice right hand from Prindle. Uppercut from Burns in the clinch. Right hand misses, but the left hook rocks Prindle off his base. Nice right-left from Burns now. Thirty seconds to go now. Prindle tries a trip from the clinch, but fails.

Round 2 - Leg kick from Prindle lands low again. He's now being deducted a point for repeated infractions. Wild exchange after the restart. Burns working a takedown up against the fence. Prindle defends, and they disengage to the center of the cage. Prindle stuffs a takedown. Burns puts a hand on the mat, but eats a right hand as he stands up. Right hand from Burns staggers Prindle. Combination from Burns lands. He takes Prindle's back standing. Knee to the body from Prindle. Both men are bleeding from their faces. Both men are also slowing down. Burns' left eye is swelling up. Bellator 40 Results: Michael Chandler Wrestles A Decision From Lloyd Woodard

This is the live blog for Lloyd Woodard vs. Michael Chandler. Woodard is 11-0 in MMA. He defeated Carey Vanier at Bellator 36 in the quarterfinal of the lightweight tournament. Chandler is undefeated in six fights, defeating Marcin Held at Bellator 36 in order to advance to the semifinals. The winner of this fight will meet Patricky Freire in the lightweight tournament finals.

Round 1 - Our referee for this bout is Jason Herzog. Chandler lands a combination that sends Woodward back into the fence. They exchange strikes. Chandler picks up Woodard from the clinch and puts him on his back. Chandler on top in half-guard. Fifteen punches to the midsection. Woodard regains butterfly guard and scrambles to his feet, but Chandler puts him right back on the mat. Woodard gets back to his feet after a long struggle off his back. Halfway through the round. Woodard lands a counter left hook from distance. Chandler shoots, and puts Woodard down after a struggle. Chandler is unable to do much from guard. Woodard explodes back to his feet. One minute left. Straight right from Chandler lands. Chandler succeeds with a single-leg. Nice right from Chandler, but he's throwing one punch at a time.

Round 2 - Leg kick from Woodard causes Chandler to slip briefly. Chandler misses with a left hook, but lands with the followup right. Both fighters swinging through air. Woodard stuffs a takedown, and lands a big knee with Chandler crouched against the fence. Chandler lands a kick to the body, but eats a punch in the face. Chandler with a takedown now. Woodard looking to isolate Chandler's left arm. Chandler pushes Woodard into the fence, which allows Woodard to stand. Chandler with a right uppercut and two more right hands. He lifts Woodard up and plants him on the mat. Woodard looking for a kimura now, which he is able to use to sweep. He has Chandler's back standing now. Chandler looking for a switch, but it allows Woodard to take his back with both hooks in. Thirty seconds in the round. Woodard looking for a rear-naked choke. He is unable to get his arm under the chin, and decides to land punches as the round ends.

Up against the fence now with a minute to go. Chandler looks for an arm triangle, which allows him to move to mount. Woodard shrimps into half guard. Big punch from Chandler on top. More big punches as the round ends.
