In the fourth fight of the night at Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley, Saad Awad is taking on local favorite Joe Duarte. The bout is a lightweight fight. Not a notable affair, but worth it for drawing the local crowd.
Duarte looked strong throughout this bout. Both fighters opened the show trading, but it was Duarte who struck first, landing two hard punches that dropped Awad to the mat. Duarte pounced and began to work from top position. Awad made feeble attempts at a few submissions, but was able to do nothing with it. Using superior positional grappling, Duarte achieves mount and then Awad's back. With sloppy back control, though Awad was able to stand. The round ended there, but it clearly belonged to Duarte.
The second round is where things went from bad to worse for Awad. Awad did manage to hurt Duarte with hard punches, but a perfectly timed double leg sat Awad to the mat. Duarte easily moved to mount, then Awad's back only to lock up a belly-down armbar to close the show.
Strikeforce Diaz vs. Daley results: Joe Duarte defeats Saad Awad by submission (armbar) at 2:45 of round 2.
