Strikeforce Results: Nick Diaz Stops Paul Daley In One Round, One Epic Fight

The main event of the Showtime broadcast of Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley is, naturally, Nick Diaz vs. Paul Daley. This is a welterweight title fight and is scheduled for five, five-minute rounds. The referee in charge of the action is "Big" John McCarthy.

ROUND 1 - Both fighters start orthodox. Diaz already clowning around with Daley. talking to him and trying to get to him. Diaz leaps in with a left hook and drops Diaz, but the fighter recovers and is able to stand. Diaz now in southpaw. Diaz connects with a left to the body of Daley and drives the Brit into the fence to clinch. Daley is rocked with multiple lefts and rights, first to the body then the head and Daley reaches for a takedown. Daley stands back out and the two fighters stand. The two fighters are exchanging hard flurries with Diaz stalking and generally getting the better of them. Left hook from Daley drops Diaz to the mat. He follows up with ground and pound, but it's fairly limited. Daley backs out and eats a huge body shot. That drops Daley. Diaz pounces and the referee stops the fight.

Nick Diaz retains his welterweight title.
