UFC 130 Results: Frank Mir Dominates Roy Nelson Over Three Rounds

The co-main event of the evening at UFC 130: Rampage vs. Hamill is Frank Mir vs. Roy Nelson. This is a heavyweight fight, meaning either fighter must be less than 265lbs. The winner of this bout is likely to be the number one contender for a heavyweight title shot. The referee in charge of the action is Josh Rosenthal.

ROUND 1 - Mir standing southpaw and Nelson othrodox. Nelson charges in for a takedown, but can't get it. Mir drops for a single, but that's also stuffed. Now the two jockey for position against the fence. Hard knees from Mir and the two separate. Left hand by Nelson but an inside kick and knee from Mir. Overhand right from Nelson barely clips Mir and the two go back to the clinch. Again hard knees from Mir seem to stun Nelson, but they re-clinch with Mir's back to the fence. Uppercut from Nelson barely misses. Mir ducks another punch and drills Nelson with another knee. Beautiful osoto gari from Mir throws Nelson to the mat right into full mount. Nelson scrambles to his feet and Mir lets him do it. Nelson reinitaties the clinch.

ROUND 2 - Nice right hand by Nelson to start the round. Mir throws to the body, but doesn't do much damage. Mir grabs a single, turns the corner and gets the takedown. Left elbow from Mir on top in Nelson's half guard. Nelson scrambles to his base and they stand. Mir looks for a knee and eats an uppercut instead. Right knee from Mir lands. Scoop double from Mir puts Nelson on his back. Again Nelson gets to his base, but Mir is applying pressure in every position at this point. Nelson briefly gets double underhooks and can't do much with it. Middle kick and knee work for Mir, but Nelson fires back with a right hand. Nelson pressing Mir into the cage. Referee Rosenthal separates the two.

ROUND 3 - Both fighters look winded, Nelson far more so. Mir closes the distance and fires another knee to the jaw of Nelson. Again a knee from Mir and the Las Vegas-native pushes Nelson right back into the cage. Mir changes levels and scoop doubles Nelson and passes right to side control. Again Nelson bases down and stands back up, but Mir is all over him. Another hard knee from Mir and another scoop double from Mir. And even though Nelson stands back up, Mir scoop doubles him right back down. Mir in Nelson's half guard dropping HARD elbows. Nelson, in a demonstration of fantastic grit, stands back up again.
