UFC 131 Results: Kenny Florian Makes Good On His Featherweight Debut Over Diego Nunes

Kenny Florian meets Diego Nunes in the co-main event of the evening. Kenny Florian is 11-4 in the UFC. This is his featherweight debut. Diego Nunes defeated former WEC champion Mike Brown at UFC 125. Our referee for this bout is "Big" John McCarthy.

ROUND 1 - Kenny missing a couple head kicks. Trading strikes that narrowly miss. Nunes lands the first strike of the bout, a leg kick. Kenny ducks under a punch. Nunes fighting off a takedown attempt. Florian working toward his back standing. Trading knees along the fence. Nunes dropping down to take Florian down. Completes. Kenny throwing elbows to the head. Back standing, clinching against the fence. Trading knees to the midsection. Nunes lands a right hand over the top. Vancouver fans starting a "Boston sucks" chant. Nunes leg kick takes Florian's leg out for a moment. Florian blocks a high kick. Spinning back fist lands for Nunes. Ducks under a head kick. High kick lands. Florian ducks under a punch and drives Nunes to the floor. Nunes threatens with an armbar, and gets back to his feet during the scramble. Spinning back fist from Nunes just misses. Wild right hand in an exchanges knocks Florian down as the round ends.

ROUND 2 - Nunes avoiding Florian's jabs. Florian looks fine after the knockdown. Seems like he's making adjustments early in the round. Florian ducks under a punch and drives Nunes into the cage. Drops down for a single, lifts the leg above his shoulder, but Nunes stays balanced. John McCarthy warning Nunes for grabbing the fence. Florian on his back. Throwing elbows from his back. Nunes postures out of a triangle. Nunes stands, flies in with a punch. Standing now. Good body kick for Nunes. Nunes slowing down. Florian with a single up against the fence. Florian on top now in half-guard. Short punches and elbows. It looks like Nunes is bleeding all over. Big punches from Florian. Puddles of blood filling up the mat as time expires.

ROUND 3 - Trade leg kicks to open. Jab from Florian. Florian looks much fresher than Nunes. Kenny pushes forward and dumps Nunes with a double leg. Big elbow from the guard. Florian moves into side control now. Nunes blood puddles filling the mat now. Florian tries to take the back in a scramble, but Nunes is able to stand back up. Short punches from Florian with his back against the fence. Florian landing crsiper strikes now with Nunes throwing wildly. Florian jabbing well. One minute to go and Nunes needs to do something here. Kenny doing well not to give up on the jab. Florian still looks fresh 14 minutes in. Nice knee from the Thai plum for Florian. Good clinch work at the end and Nunes lands a big right hand that stuns Florian as time expires. Crowd boos as Kenny raises his hands.
