Strikeforce Challengers 17 Fight Card: Ovince St. Preux Returns To Strikeforce Cage

Strikeforce heads to Las Vegas, Nevada for the first time in promotional history as they hold Strikeforce Challengers 17 at The Pearl at The Palms hotel. Sarah Kaufman, Liz Carmouche, Bobby Voelker and Roger Bowling are expected to be a part of the fight card.

Strikeforce Challengers 17 Fight Card: Ovince St. Preux Vs. Joe Cason Targeted

According to a report by MMA Fighting, Strikeforce light heavyweight rising prospect Ovince St. Preux is set to return to the Strikeforce hexagon. The report states that St. Preux will face newcomer Joe Cason at Strikeforce Challengers 17. That event takes place at The Pearl at The Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 22nd. The fights for the main card will air on Showtime.

St. Preux is riding a seven-fight win streak, most recently defeat Antwain Britt, Benji Radach and Abongo Humphrey all within the Strikeforce cage. For Cason, this is his first fight for a non-regional promotion. He most recently defeated former UFC light heavyweight Sean Salmon in May of this past year.

The fight card for Strikeforce Challengers 17 at the time of this writing is as follows:

Liz Carmouche vs. Sarah Kaufman
Roger Bowling vs. Bobby Voelker
Ovince St. Preux vs. Joe Cason
Lavar Johnson vs. Devin Cole

Strikeforce Challengers 17 Fight Card Nearly Complete With Four Bouts Announced

According to a Strikeforce press release, the organization has made official all but one fight for the main card portion of their Strikeforce Challengers 17 event. The fights will take place July 22 at the Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada and will air on Showtime at 11 p.m. ET (delayed on the West Coast). The event will be headlined by a welterweight rubber match between Bobby Voelker and Roger Bowling.

As we previously reported, former Strikeforce women's 135lbs (welterweight) champion Sarah Kaufman will face up-and-comer Liz Carmouche. Just announced today, Lavar Johnson returns to the Strikeforce cage at this event to take on Devin Cole. Rounding out the card will be a middleweight bout between Adlan Amagov and Ronald Stallings. There will be on more bout to air on Showtime as part of this card that has not yet been announced.

"The rubber match between Voelker and Bowling will not only settle the score between the two, but it will also help determine another rising contender in the welterweight division," said Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker. "This event on July 22 is loaded with potentially explosive fights and we're excited to kick off our relationship with the Palms with such a great card."

Strikeforce Challengers 17 Fight Card: Sarah Kaufman Vs. Liz Carmouche Targeted

According to a report from MMA Fighting, former Strikeforce women's 135-pound champion Sarah Kaufman will face up and coming prospect Liz Carmouche on July 22 as part of Strikeforce Challengers 17. This is the first ever Strikeforce event to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada and will be hosted at The Pearl at The Palms. In addition to this women's bout, Roger Bowling is expected to face Bobby Voelker for a third time.

Kaufman's last bout took place on April 2nd as part of the Alaskan Fighting Championships where she defeated Megumi Yabushita via third-round TKO. Her last fight in Strikeforce took place in October of 2010 at Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Noons 2 where Kaufman lost her title to current women's 135-pound champion, Marloes Coenen.

Carmouche has three fights in Strikeforce (two wins and one loss), most recently a fourth-round submission defeat at the hands of current women's 135-pound champion Coenen. The bout took place at Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson.
